Linda Fairstein hurls her recurring protagonist, Assistant District Attorney Alex Cooper, into another murder mystery in Lethal Legacy. Having been in charge of the Sex Crimes Unit in the Manhattan D.A.'s office, Fairstein tends to rip headlines from tabloids and use them in her novels. The opening of her latest thriller is reminiscent of the horrific case of Peter Braunstein, as a vicious intruder disguised as a fireman drugs and assaults a hapless woman. From there, the case spirals into a mystery revolving around the New York Public Library and, get this, bloodthirsty bibliophiles. Fairstein had the luxury of exploring all the nooks and crannies of the legendary landmark in midtown Manhattan and she takes advantage of its rare artifacts and historical oddities.
