The National Hurricane Center issued a statement on Thursday about the potential threat of a new storm currently brewing over the Gulf of Mexico. The low-pressure system is moving northwest and has a “high chance” of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next two days, according to the Miami-based NHC. Computer models monitoring the system—which would be called Lee if it became a tropical cyclone—predict that its path could cross over the coasts of Texas and Louisiana. Hurricane Katia, a Category 1 storm that developed late on Wednesday night, is roaring through the eastern Caribbean Sea but poses no immediate threat to land.
