Rapper and Black Eyed Peas alum Will.i.am’s new song received an out of this world premiere Tuesday night. The artist’s latest track, aptly titled “Reach for the Stars,” was beamed from NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity, making it the first piece of music to broadcast from another planet. The song traveled some 700 miles before reaching the students gathered at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to listen to its premiere. It’s not the first time NASA’s been cheeky with music—for the 40th anniversary of the Beatles’ song “Across the Universe,” the organization beamed it into the cosmos.
