The New York State Assembly passed a bill on Tuesday that lifts a ban on mixed martial arts fighting taking place in the state. The ban had been in place since 1997. It required only 76 votes to pass but 113 assembly members voted in favor of lifting the ban. The UFC has tried to hold multiple MMA events in New York for years and may now be able to host one in Madison Square Garden by the end of the year.
