Even David Cameron says it's "truly dreadful": The British newspaper the News of the World reportedly hacked into the phone of a missing schoolgirl, Milly Dowler, and her family, The Guardian reported Monday. The newspaper, owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News International, has already admitted hacking into the phones of celebrities and the paper’s then-deputy editor, Andy Coulson, has resigned as Prime Minister Cameron's media adviser. Dowler went missing in 2002 at the age of 13, and journalists allegedly hacked into her voicemail and began listening to her messages within a few days of her disappearance. When her voicemail began to fill up, they reportedly deleted some of the old messages to make room for new ones—which falsely led police and Dowler’s family to believe the girl was alive. Last month, Levi Bellfiel was jailed for life for Dowler’s murder.
