It looks like David Gregory forgot that Mitt Romney was in the room—all the other candidates piled on the attack, and the moderator didn't help. Gregory's first slow pitch in Sunday morning’s Republican debate focused on why Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich think the frontrunner is unelectable. Santorum answered by faulting Romney for not seeking reelection after his Massachusetts governorship, and said he himself had run in a district that was more Democratic than Massachusetts and managed to win. Romney replied that he “longs for a day” when people don’t go to Washington forever and become “career politicians.” Gingrich picked up the ball: “Can we drop a little bit of the pious baloney?” he said in a scathing line. “This idea that suddenly citizenship showed up in your mind—just level with the American people! You've been running since at least the 1990s!”
