Libyan Foreign Minister Musa Kusa fled to London of “his own free will,” according to British Foreign Secretary William Hague. Koussa arrived at a noncommercial British airfield on Wednesday and announced his resignation. British officials say they did not offer Koussa any sort of deal or immunity from justice, and that he is talking to them voluntarily. The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court listed Kusa as one of those who had control over the Libyan security forces suspected of crimes against humanity. Previously, U.S. officials have said they suspect Kusa, a former head of external intelligence, of arranging the 1988 Lockerbie bombing in Scotland, which killed 270 people. However, the focus of his talks will likely be about current issues, including the organization of Gaddafi’s forces. A Gaddafi government spokesman said that Kusa had left Libya for medical care, but had not contacted the government since he crossed the border into Tunisia. Ali Abdussalam el-Treki, a second top Libyan official, defected to Egypt on Thursday.
