North Carolina attorney general Roy Cooper announced Tuesday that his office will not defend a recently instituted statute that would prevent transgender people from using their bathroom of choice. He called the new law "a national embarrassment" that promotes anti-LGBT discrimination. Cooper, a Democrat, plans to challenge the governor Pat McCrory in an upcoming election.
