Mike Tyson has enjoyed quite the career resurgence since his retirement from professional boxing. He’s made notable cameos in the blockbuster Hangover comedy trilogy, starred in his own cartoon detective show, and enjoyed success with a one-man Broadway show and Spike Lee-directed HBO Special, “Mike Tyson: The Undisputed Truth".
He was in Toronto yesterday for a one-night performance of that show. While making the promotional rounds on local TV, he managed to showcase that he’s held onto his taste for controversy as well as success.
Tyson had met with controversial Toronto Mayor Rob Ford earlier in the day, and when seemingly affable newsman Nathan Downer asks him whether his 1992 rape conviction could reflect badly on Ford’s mayoral campaign (which apparently was straight-edged and dignified before), Tyson explodes on him with a salvo of four-letter words. Downer, like those before him, tried in vain to remind him that he’s on live TV.
