An unflattering 2005 painting of Madonna and Guy Ritchie reclining in the nude by Scottish painter Peter Howson, now a relic of their ill-fated eight-year marriage, failed to sell at auction in Glasgow with a £15,000 reserve. Following the February Christies’s sale of a 1979 Lee Friedlander photo depicting Madonna in a Courbet-like nude for $37,500—more than doubling the high estimate—the brutish portrayal of the megastar with Ritchie clutching a rippling thigh didn’t live up to the hype.
