It’s a landslide—among the editorial boards, that is. The New York Times, Post, and Daily News all endorsed Scott Stringer for New York City comptroller over Eliot Spitzer—despite that Spitzer had a 19-point lead in a Quinnipiac poll released last week. Running a socks-themed front page (remember how Spitzer, aka Client No. 9, allegedly didn’t want to take his socks off for sex with prostitutes? Well now you do), the Post writes that “Spitzer genuinely believes only one thing deep in his soul—that the rules don’t apply to him” and calls back to Spitzer pursuit of higher ethical standards before patronizing prostitutes. Over at the News, the paper claims that Spitzer made “definitively false statements” when meeting with their editorial board, causing the paper to “strenuously” endorse Stringer. The Times didn’t mince words, writing in the first line “Scott Stringer would make a fine comptroller.”
