Police say dozens of dead cats were found frozen in a storage unit in Long Island City on Monday. The cats were reportedly being stored in two separate freezers, and police put the preliminary number at 40, saying it was hard to count them because some were stuck together. Some of them were found in serving trays, and at least one of them had been skinned. The NYPD Animal Cruelty Squad is investigating with the help of the ASPCA. The grisly discovery was made after the storage unit went to auction and the contents were purchased for $400. The previous tenant was described only as a woman who’d been paying for the unit on a month-to-month basis. She stopped paying in July and has not yet been found by police.
