A NYPD officer has been taken off the streets after slamming a black former tennis star mistakenly fingered as a criminal, Commissioner Bill Bratton said Thursday. Bratton apologized for the incident and said the James Blake was detained for five to ten minutes before police realized they had the wrong guy. Blake, once ranked No. 4 in the world in men's tennis, said he was slammed to the ground and suffered cuts and bruises. All the officers involved were white and said they mistook Blake, who is black, for a suspect involved in an identity-theft ring. "Blake looked remarkable to the suspect we were searching for, they could have been twin brothers," Bratton said.
