According to a report in The New York Times, seven days after President Trump was sworn in, he had a private dinner with FBI Director James Comey at the White House in which Trump asked him if he would pledge his loyalty to the president. According to the report’s citing of people familiar with the dinner conversation, Comey declined and instead said that he would always be honest with the president but was not “reliable” in a political sense. Trump reportedly asked the same question again later on in the dinner. Again, Comey said that allegedly that he would give him his “honesty.” Trump said that he had a dinner conversation with Comey but the White House said the account from the Times was not correct.
