President Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron agreed to stay the course on the current strategy in Libya at a London press conference on the last day of Obama’s state visit. “We should be turning up the heat,” Cameron declared, adding that Col. Gaddafi “must go.” Obama said that Gaddafi “must leave office” and “that there won’t be a let-up in the pressure.” Though the two played down any differences, analysts have said that Britain is frustrated because Obama refuses to expand the military engagement in Libya. One source said that “the U.S. seems only half-committed to this battle.” Meanwhile, American officials have expressed concern that cuts in military spending will hurt Britain’s ability to support the U.S. in foreign conflicts.
