On Saturday, in front of the Disabled American Veterans conference, President Obama announced a new aid initiative to treat veterans with mental health issues and brain injuries. It will encompass a $100 million grant to research centers focused on treatment options, along with a sharing program for federal agencies studying the issue. “I’m not going to be satisfied until every veteran...gets the support and help they need to stay strong,” Obama told the audience. The administration has gotten heat for a massive backlog of disability claims from veterans, which Obama called "unacceptable," and promised they were now "making progress."
