In spite of the major obstacles President Obama has encountered in recent months, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll found that his approval rating is currently the highest it’s been since March. The poll found that while Americans are disappointed with his handling of the economy and job rates, views of his overall performance have improved among independents, young adults, and seniors. Moreover, the poll revealed that Obama has leverage over Republicans in Congress when it comes to protecting the middle class. Fifty percent of participants said they trust Obama on the issue, while only 35 percent said they trusted the GOP—a significant increase from last month, when participants were split 50-50 on the topic. Obama also has a leg up on Republicans when it comes to taxes, with 46 percent siding with the president and 41 percent siding with the GOP in Congress.
