Seeing President Obama and former President George W. Bush together is a rare sight any day—so why did they pick Tanzania to hang out? As Obama wraps up a weeklong trip to Africa, and Bush accompanies his wife to a summit for African first ladies, the two presidents met at a memorial for the 1998 Tanzania embassy bombings. A Marine laid a wreath in front of the embassy, where 10 Tanzanians and 85 others were killed in al Qaeda’s attack. Aides said that Bush and Obama spoke for a few minutes before the ceremony. Bush remains fairly popular in Africa after he devoted billions of dollars to fighting AIDS on the continent—and Obama has repeatedly praised his predecessor on this trip.
