President Obama's campaign is starting to sound desperate. Obama supporters are being inundated by emails and text messages hitting them up for cash. In a bid to entice donors with a chance to win an invite to his birthday party, the president emailed supporters saying, "My upcoming birthday next week could be the last one I celebrate as President of the United States, but that's not up to me—it's up to you." The message echoes the campaign's fear that Mitt Romney will unseat Obama simply by outfundraising him. The election campaign's chief operating officer said Monday, "We've gotten our behinds handed to us." The same day, Vice President Joe Biden suggested Obama would lose the election if "the other side spends us into oblivion." Even first lady Michelle expressed concerns about waking up on Election Day and "wondering if I could have done more." For now, the campaign is determined to portray President Obama as the financial underdog.
