Liberal commentators are taking the day off from decrying President Obama as gutless to congratulate him on his agenda-setting speech yesterday in Kansas. The Daily Beast’s Michael Tomasky is relieved that Obama finally took a bold stand against “trickle-down economics,” and made the case for income equality. But the most deft move in his speech was effectively taking Occupy Wall Street talking points and making them sound patriotic for a broad audience. As Tomasky writes, “The tide is turning, and while it wasn’t the president who turned it, at least it’s clear that he understands the moment and is seizing it.”
