As the federal budget heads toward a political dead end once again, President Obama announced the first idea from his new plans regarding the economy, offering Republicans a deal to cut corporate taxes in exchange for significant investment in a job-creating program. Obama has long supported lowering corporate taxes, but previously insisted the reform be linked to an individual tax overhaul. Now he’s dropping that demand if Republicans will agree to have the government invest in manufacturing infrastructure, community colleges, and the like to generate middle-class jobs. No word yet on what variation of “no” will be the GOP response.
