President Obama proposed a new “grand bargain” plan for the middle class, but it was quickly rejected by Republican lawmakers. Obama spoke about the offer at Amazon.com in Chattanooga, Tennessee, saying he’s “willing to work with Republicans on reforming our corporate tax code, as long as we use the money from transitioning to a simpler tax system for a significant investment in creating middle-class jobs.” But the budget fights remain. House Speaker John Boehner rebutted that Obama’s plan was much like the proposals the White House has supported for years.
