President Obama proposed a new “grand bargain” plan for the middle class, but it was quickly rejected by Republican lawmakers. Obama spoke about the offer at in Chattanooga, Tennessee, saying he’s “willing to work with Republicans on reforming our corporate tax code, as long as we use the money from transitioning to a simpler tax system for a significant investment in creating middle-class jobs.” But the budget fights remain.
