Obama, Romney Talk Faith

Church and State

In Cathedral Age magazine.

President Obama and Mitt Romney both got real with Cathedral Age, the Washington National Cathedral’s quarterly magazine. Both sat down for individual interviews about their faiths for the latest issue, and their answers were notably different. Romney suggested that “in recent years, the notion of the separation of church and state has been taken by some well beyond its original meaning. They seek to remove from the public domain any acknowledgement of God.” Obama, on the other hand, insisted that “the constitutional principle of a separation between church and state has served our nation well since our founding—embraced by people of faith and those of no faith at all throughout our history—it has been paramount in our work.”
