The White House said Monday that President Obama will address the nation Wednesday night to discuss his plan to withdraw troops from Afghanistan. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Obama is “reviewing all of the options” about the future of the Afghanistan mission. There are 100,000 American troops in Afghanistan, 30,000 of which are considered part of a “surge” in forces. Obama has said he will begin withdrawing troops as soon as next month, while the killing of Osama bin Laden on May 2 is said to be influencing the future of the mission. The location for Wednesday’s speech has not yet been determined, but Obama is scheduled to speak at New York’s Fort Drum on Thursday.
