The Obama administration has reportedly warned China to return home its undercover agents in the United States as a part of a global operation to repatriate prominent Chinese, some of whom are wanted on corruption charges, TheNew York Times reported on Sunday. According to American officials, the State Department urged China in recent weeks to cease Operation Fox Hunt, which is Beijing’s international effort to strong-arm fugitives into returning to China while recovering funds in connection with criminal activity. China’s Ministry of Public Security have allegedly sent agents operating in the U.S. on tourist and trade visas to pressure expatriates through methods including threatening Chinese relatives, according to U.S. officials. The Times reports Ministry of Public Security figures estimate more than 930 suspects across the world had been repatriated under Operation Fox Hunt since last year.
