President Barack Obama is planning to sign an executive order Friday asking companies to share data on cybersecurity threats with each other and the government. In the wake of the attacks on Sony Entertainment, Obama’s order is aimed at making companies and consumer-privacy advocates comfortable with the idea of contributing cyberthreat data through the private sector-led “information sharing and analysis organizations” (ISAOs). ISAOs serve as hubs where companies share data while also receiving liability protection, according to the White House. But companies are hesitant to share information without some reform to the surveillance practices exposed by Edward Snowden. Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, and Google’s Larry Page will most notably not be in attendance, Bloomberg first reported. Obama is expected to sign the order at a cybersecurity conference at Stanford University.
