President Obama is resorting to stricter enforcement to cope with the increase in unaccompanied minors from Central America attempting to enter the U.S. He is expected Monday to ask Congress for more than $2 billion to expand border enforcement and grant broader powers to immigration officials. He will also ask Congress to revise immigration policies to allow for fast-track screening and deportation of children migrants from Central America; this policy is already in place for children who illegally cross the border from Mexico. The president admonished the parents of Central American children who send them to the U.S. alone. “Do not send your children to the borders,” he stated in an interview with ABC News this past week. “If they do make it, they’ll get sent back. More importantly, they may not make it.”
