Official: All 9 Injured by NYPD

All nine people injured in Friday's shooting at the Empire State Building were hurt by police, a New York Police Department official said Saturday. The victims were wounded mainly by bullets ricocheting off flower pots and other objects. The original shooter, who killed one man, has been identified as 58-year-old Jeffrey Johnson, a former designer of women's accessories at Hazan Imports who was laid off last year. NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said Saturday that the department had recovered three whole bullets and the rest of those wounded had been hit by fragments.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this item summarized a CNN report stating that Jeffrey Johnson had not raised his gun at police. That report has been retracted. Video from a surveillance camera nearby clearly shows Johnson pulling his weapon from a bag and pointing it at the officers in pursuit.
