Ohio will begin executions again after a three-year break said to be caused by an alleged drug shortage. The revelation came during a court hearing but will be announced by state officials later in the week. Three executions will take place next year, using a three-drug combination of midazolam, rocuronium bromide, and potassium chloride, said Thomas Madden of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Lawyers representing the death-row inmates who would be executed in the near future have said they will file a new challenge. Ronald Phillips would likely be the first to be executed, on Jan. 12, for the rape and murder of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter in 1993.
