When architect and designer Arthur Casas began the project of building Casa HS in the countryside about and hour-and-a-half outside of São Paulo, the mission was to make a house that fit seamlessly into its natural surroundings: it is partially built into the hillside behind it, it was constructed using organic materials, and it features a green roof, among other environmentally-friendly measures. As if that weren't enough, many of the walls retract for a very luxurious indoor-outdoor living experience. "This is a residence that 'gets old' well," Casas said. "It gets even better with age, as the vegetation grows and the wood gets older and the moss grows on the bricks. Every year, the house incorporates itself a little more and a little better into nature. That was my goal."
Here, The lounge, or den, projects out over the swimming pool and features a pivoting picture window, which frames a mesmerizing view of the open countryside.
