Thirty-six percent of American workers have less than $1,000 in savings and investments that could be used for retirement, according to a new survey by non-profit Employee Benefit Research Institute and Greenwald and Associates. The findings echo recent concerns that Americans are largely unprepared to financially handle what should be their golden years and ever retire from the work force. Less than half, 44 percent, have even calculated how much money they'll need to save to live comfortably in retirement. Unsurprisingly, just 18 percent are very confident they will retire comfortably.
