An opposition activist and a candidate in Venezuela’s election were killed in the run-up to the vote taking place on Sunday. José Felix Pineda, 39, who was running in the national assembly election, was fatally shot at his home on Saturday night. Ricardo Campos, an activist and member of the Acción Democrática party, was shot and killed during a protest. Venezuelans are voting to send representatives to possibly rewrite the country’s constitution—a move that opposition leaders have decried as a power grab by President Nicolás Maduro.
