Scientists in Oregon edited the genes of a human embryo for the first time in the United States, leading the way for doctors to eventually be able to help babies avoid inherited diseases. The embryos used were only for the experiment and are not intended to be implanted into a womb, according to MIT Technology Review. Only scientists in China have reported performing similar work.
