Outspoken Anti-Violence Teen Gunned Down

VICIOUS CYCLE

Caught in gang crossfire.

A young man who dared to speak out against the gun violence in his hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina was gunned down himself only a month later. Ravon Jordan, 19, was killed at a house party when rival gangs broke into a gun fight, only a few weeks after Jordan had called upon the city’s council to take steps to end the violence that plagues Fayetteville. Jordan’s best friend and her boyfriend were gunned down in an apartment complex (that complex’s second double homicide in a year). Though city officials worked with the complex’s owners to install more security cameras and change its name from Cambridge Arms to Barrington Place, Jordan told the council, “Changing the name is not going to change the violence at all. You could put lipstick on a pig, and it’s going to be a pig at the end of the day.” Jordan’s death was Fayetteville’s ninth homicide of 2014.
