Pakistan Expels Save the Children

Pakistan booted international charity group Save the Children from the country Friday, providing no formal explanation on the aid group’s expulsion. An official told the AFP the NGO was working “against Pakistan’s interest.” Police sealed off the charity’s offices in Islamabad and ordered foreign staff to leave the country within 15 days. Pakistan has previously accused the NGO of supporting the CIA’s fake vaccination program in its search for Osama bin Laden. Save the Children has denied any involvement with the CIA. The charity said it has had no foreign staffers after they were forced to leave in 2012, but has 1,200 Pakistani staff working on projects in health, education, and food.
