As Americans worry about the jihadist threat to Pakistan’s nuclear weapons, Pakistan sees a greater danger: the Americans. According to The Atlantic, Pakistan has increased the tempo at which it moves its nuclear weapons between the 15 or so facilities that handle them—a move that is intended to make it difficult for the United States (or India) to carry out a raid. Even worse, Pakistan often moves the weapons in normal, low-security vehicles in regular traffic. “The Pakistani government is willing to make its nuclear weapons more vulnerable to theft by jihadists simply to hide them from the United States, the country that funds much of its military budget,” Jeffrey Goldberg and Marc Ambinder write.
