The dueling guest-hosts act between Katie Couric and Sarah Palin on Tuesday is just the latest battle in the ratings war between NBC’s Today and ABC’s Good Morning America. The two shows have long been competing for ratings, and with ABC’s announcement that Katie Couric would guest-host on GMA this week, it looked as if ABC might finally be able to end Today’s 850-week reign as the most-watched morning show. Trying to keep its crown, Today enlisted Palin. One former Today producer said, “There aren’t too many names [like Palin] that will move the needle against such strong competition.”
