Mossack Fonseca, the Panama legal firm at the center of a massive leak allegedly showing how it helped high-powered figures secretly dodge taxes, kept clients who were subject to international sanctions. The firm worked with 33 individuals or companies who have been placed under sanctions by the U.S. Treasury, including firms based in Iran, Zimbabwe, and North Korea, the BBC reported Monday. One such company had connections to North Korea’s nuclear-weapons program. The revelation comes as the firm deals with a leak of 11 million internal documents, known as the Panama Papers, showing how it helped global political and financial clients move money offshore and dodge taxes. Though some of the companies were registered before sanctions were imposed, Mossack Fonseca continued to do business with them after they were blacklisted.
