Republican vice-presidential nominee Paul Ryan returned to the House of Representatives to a hero’s welcome Thursday, greeted with hugs and shouts of approval. Ryan returned to Washington to vote on a six-month spending bill to avoid a government shutdown, the last major piece of legislation expected to come before the House before the election. The House approved the measure, which will fund the government through 2013, despite last-minute bickering over the bill.
