Pawlenty Drops Out of 2012 Race

Former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty announced Sunday he is abandoning his bid for the Republican nomination for president after finishing a distant third in Saturday's Ames Straw Poll. Pawlenty told ABC News' This Week that "we needed to get some lift ... that didn't happen." He said that he had wanted to beat President Obama in 2012 because the country was "off track," and that he would eventually endorse a candidate. Pawlenty finished behind winner Michele Bachmann and Rep. Ron Paul in the Iowa poll, and Bachmann, who also appeared on This Week, said Pawlenty was "a good competitor."
