Pentagon Boosts Security for CIA Report

ENHANCED TECHNIQUES

U.S. commanders are warned of reprisals.

The Pentagon issued a worldwide warning to U.S. military commanders, in preparation for the release of a redacted section of the 6,800-page report on the use of "enhanced interrogation techniques" by the CIA under President George W. Bush. "There's certainly the possibility that the release of this report could cause unrest and therefore the Joint Staff has directed the combatant commands to take appropriate force protection measures," said Pentagon spokesman Army Col. Steve Warren. A 500-page summary may be published by the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, despite CIA and State Department opposition.
