Pentagon to Destroy Afghan Memoir

Redacted

Says it reveals intelligence secrets.

Just don’t burn them: The Pentagon is negotiating to buy and destroy all 10,000 copies of the first printing of an Afghan memoir it says exposes intelligence secrets. The book, Operation Dark Heart, is by Anthony A. Shaffer, a former Defense Intelligence Agency officer and lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve. The Army signed off on the book in January but the Defense Intelligence Agency identified more than 200 suspect passages in July. Disputed material includes the names of intelligence officers who worked with Shaffer and descriptions of covert operations, including NSA eavesdropping.
