Twenty-one people, including politicians and journalists, were abducted and murdered Monday in the Philippines, as the group was trying to nominate a candidate for local elections on the southern island of Mindanao. Elections in the Philippines are oftentimes violent, according to the BBC. The military said armed men, who are loyal to a rival politician, were responsible for the attack. Nine people may still be unaccounted for. Among the killed was the wife of the candidate who was being nominated, reports said.
