Despite having previously “canceled” their formal meeting, Philippine officials say President Obama and President Rodrigo Duterte actually did meet while in Laos, after Duterte caused a row by calling Obama a “son of a bitch” on Monday. The two were supposed to have a formal rendezvous at the ASEAN regional summit, but Obama’s team reported that he had “reconsidered” after news broke of Duterte’s colorful language. The length of their informal meeting—or what was discussed during it—remains unclear.
