The woman who took the iconic photograph of refugee Aylan Kurdi dead on a Turkish beach says she was “petrified” when she first saw his body. Nilüfer Demir works for Turkey’s Dogan News Agency, where she gave her first interview Thursday. “Three-year-old Aylan Kurdi was lying lifeless face down in the surf, in his red T-shirt and dark blue shorts folded to his waist,” she said according to a translation. “The only thing I could do was to make heard his outcry. At that moment, I believed I would be able to achieve this by triggering the shutter of my camera and took his picture.” The boy’s brother, Galip, 5, was found about 100 meters ahead of Aylan.
