From September 8 to October 6, one New York icon is getting the plaudits it has long deserved. We're speaking, of course, of pizza. The Marlborough Chelsea has put together a special exhibition celebrating the illustrious dish for its first exhibition at its new space on Broome Street in New York. As the gallery launches itself into a new neighborhood, perhaps it's fitting that curator and Marlborough associate director Vera Neykov told Art News that, “sharing a pizza is a metaphor for community and getting together.” See different artists' interepretations of pizza—including Oto Gillen's untitled (Vanitas), which is quite literally dripping with mouthwatering pizza, and is enough to make one never want to see another still life of fruit again. Also quite fun is the series by Michelle Devereux, particularly the trippy Caveman on Pizza. And for those with eyes bigger than their stomachs, don't miss John Riepenhoff's pizza-on-pizza Pizza Networking Theory! See the mouthwatering highlights from the show.
