A North Carolina air traffic controller has been accused of acquiring a “weapon of mass destruction” for unknown reasons, CNN reports. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has identified the suspect as 30-year-old Paul George Dandan, who they say acquired a homemade pipe bomb from an acquaintance and transported it. Dandan allegedly got the bomb from another man, 39-year-old Derrick Fells, who police say built the weapon to “use it against a neighbor with whom he was involved in an ongoing dispute.” Fells allegedly gave Dandan the bomb after deciding not to use it. Both men were arrested Friday, and it was not immediately clear how they knew each other or what Dandan allegedly sought to do with the weapon. The Federal Aviation Administration said Dandan’s employment with the Charlotte Douglas International Airport has been “terminated.” The airport issued its own statement reassuring that Dandan “had no access to the restricted areas of the terminal or ramp.”
