Former Canadian Liberal federal cabinet member Jean Lapierre, his wife, sister, two brothers, and two crew members were killed Tuesday in a plane crash on the Îles-de-la-Madeleine in Quebec. The seven-passenger plane was on its way to Lapierre’s father’s funeral when it hit rough weather and went down near the airport. Lapierre, 59, originally served in Canada’s House of Commons from 1979 to 1993, later serving in the Bloc Québécois party caucus and as a transport minister before becoming a political commentator and analyst.
