These numbers are not working well for President Obama: Only 38 percent of respondents to a Politico/George Washington University Battleground Poll said they believe the president deserves to be reelected, while 44 percent said they would vote to oust him and 13 percent said they will consider voting for someone else. A majority of respondents did hold a favorable view of Obama on a personal level, but respondents were disappointed in Obama’s health-care law and his ability to deal with the economic crisis. By an 11-point margin, voters said they trusted congressional Republicans to create jobs more than they do Obama, but the Tea Party made the biggest inroads: 43 percent said they view the movement favorably, compared with 35 percent unfavorably. Although the numbers looked discouraging, Bill Clinton had the exact same reelect number—38 percent—in October 1994.
