Pope: 'Tech Can't Replace God'

Pope Benedict kicked off Holy Week celebrations with a warning for the Palm Sunday crowd. "From the beginning men and women have been filled—and this is as true today as ever—with a desire to 'be like God', to attain the heights of God by their own powers," he said. But “technology can't replace God.” The 84-year-old Pope said that though technology has improved the lives of many, it has also increased the possibilities for evil, and that recent natural disasters have reminded us that we are not all-powerful. "Mankind has managed to accomplish so many things: We can fly! We can see, hear and speak to one another from the farthest ends of the earth. And yet the force of gravity which draws us down is powerful," he said. Palm Sunday, which is celebrated on the Sunday before Easter, commemorates Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on a donkey, a symbol of peace in the ancient world.
